bbq cauliflower & honey mustard

I listened to a sermon series recently that centered on the lovely topic of marriage. Although the message was for married couples, the principles were applicable to any sinner. I am far from married but am most definitely a sinner, so what I heard was extremely applicable : )

Some of what I learned, and was reminded of, is that I don’t deserve anything. The “smallest” sin I commit automatically makes me an offender to a perfect God. Every circumstance, inconvenience, and hurt…I actually deserve. Every breath…is actually a gift! My status in life should not be “sinned against” rather “loved by God, but sinful”.
I learned that Paul, who called himself the chief of all sinners, was not sin-centered, he was Gospel-centered. I have sinned against God, but have been forgiven and the Gospel is bigger than my sin.

I was reminded that as wonderful as marriage will be someday, it will be work. Finally, I heard this quote by Martin Luther, “Marriage: the school of character.”. Until the day comes for me to enroll at that school, by God’s grace I hope to apply what I learned right now with all people!

BBQ Cauliflower
1 head cauliflower (about 8 c)
1/2 c olive oil
1/2 c wheat free tamari
1/2 c nutritional yeast
2 T Frank’s Finest BBQ spice blend

Cut cauliflower, toss with remaining ingredients, spread on to parchment paper lined dehydrator trays, and dehydrate at 105° F for 12-24 hours.

Honey Mustard
2/3 c raw honey
1/4 c dry mustard
1/4 c white vinegar
1 t Celtic Sea salt

Mix all ingredients in a small bowl or food processor.

sprouted lentil & pepper salad

Sprouted Lentil & Pepper Salad
4 c sprouted green lentils
3 bell pepper (chopped)
1 small red onion (finely chopped)
1/3 c extra virgin olive oil
juice of 2 lemons
1 t Celtic Sea salt
1 t black pepper

To sprout lentils soak overnight, rinse, and line in a glass jar or bowl. I prefer to use several glass bowls. Rinse at least once a day until lentils sprout about 1/4 inch. This could take a couple of days :) Then toss all ingredients in a mixing bowl and you’re done. Like the green salad, this will keep for quite awhile in a tightly sealed glass jar in the refrigerator.

Today I am in warm and sunny San Antonio, Texas! I didn’t even plan this recipe for the week while I’m here, but it seems so appropriate doesn’t it?! I am so incredibly thankful right now! God has answered a prayer that I started praying for years ago. I didn’t realize how important it was when I first started to pray for it and the purpose wasn’t always clear to me, but I knew that I needed to pray. It wasn’t until recently that I realized where that prayer fell according to God’s plan. God’s timing is perfect. He answers prayer in the best possible way at the best possible time. Not because He makes things happen when I want them to, or how I think they should turn out, but because His will is perfect. Prayers prayed in belief according to God’s will are answered. I sure don’t deserve this, and I am so so so very thankful!

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who’re the called according to His purpose.

Orange Maple Walnut Granola
4 c buckwheat groats (soaked and dehydrated)
2 c oat groats (soaked and dehydrated)
1 1/2 c fresh squeezed orange juice
1 1/2 c chopped walnuts (at least soaked)
1 c maple syrup
1 c cranberries
1 t vanilla extract
1 t Celtic Sea salt

First, grind oat groats into a flour and slice cranberries in half. Then combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Spread over several parchment paper lined dehydrator trays, and dehydrate at 105° F until crunchy.

Coconut Milk
4 c water
1 can full fat coconut milk
few drops stevia extract

Blend all ingredients thoroughly.

sea veggie crackers & a giveaway

I added a recipes page! See it above? I think it will be way more helpful for finding past recipes : ) I also made some changes to the sidebar and added more ministries worth giving to. More changes to come!

I kept postponing this recipe for the simple fact that these crackers don’t look “pretty”.
I know lame. If you have any doubts about these crackers that have both “sea” and “veggie” in their name, have not any fear…they.are.delicious. I first learned about this genius combination from a Raw Food World episode, and since then I’ve only made a ton. I adapted the recipe a bit from the original, but the idea is the same and I want to give credit where it is due : )

Also, a reader turned friend emailed me asking how she could use a recently acquired (large) amount of kelp powder. This recipe is for her! I would have used even more kelp if I had had it! Sea veggies provide minerals that we just can’t get from food grown on land, but they aren’t always the easiest to swallow. Problem solved. Make these crackers and get your sea veggies!

Sea Veggie Crackers
7 nori roll sheets
2 c carrots (chopped)
1 c Brazil nuts
1 c sunflower seeds (soaked and dehydrated)
1/2 c lemon juice
1/2 c water
6 cloves garlic
1 T kelp powder
1 t Celtic Sea salt

Cut each nori roll sheet into 6ths. Process all other ingredients in a food processor until thoroughly combined but slightly course. Dollop about 1 Tablespoon onto each nori sheet 6th. Dehydrate until crispy (12-14 hours at 105° F). Eat!

This blog came out of a vision to reform the area of health food for the glory of Christ and as a means to give to those in need. I was so burdened with my conviction about food, but wasn’t sure how to go about sharing it with others. People would ask me all the time how I made certain foods or why I ate the way I ate, and every time I would try to explain. This blog is a result of so much prayer and putting a conviction of mine to action in order to spread it to others. I am so encouraged with all the feedback I’ve received since starting the blog last June. My greatest hope is that everyone who visits will see the beauty of God’s creation and praise Him for it. I want people to see that His creation was made for food and it is perfect. I also want Christians who visit to understand that it is our responsibility to take back the area of health food from the corrupt hands in which it currently rests. I may be one small piece in a larger effort to do so, but I take my role very seriously. I’m not a doctor or even a certified nutritionist, but I do know that when we return to the food that has yet to be tainted by man, we gain a health and vitality that I believe humans are naturally supposed to have.

The second part of the vision for this blog has yet to come to fruition, but it’s getting closer. The more people that know about the blog, the closer I get to making the announcement. And I am tickled by the thought of that day when I can announce it! Will you help me spread the word?

Vanilla Chai Ice Cream
4 c water
4 chai tea bags
1 c coconut butter
1/2 c raw honey
2 t vanilla extract
1/4 t Celtic Sea salt

Steep tea bags in water for 10 minutes. Refrigerate until cool. Blend all remaining ingredients. Pour into an ice cream maker, or freeze in ice cube trays and process in food processor.
