sea veggie crackers & a giveaway

I added a recipes page! See it above? I think it will be way more helpful for finding past recipes : ) I also made some changes to the sidebar and added more ministries worth giving to. More changes to come!

I kept postponing this recipe for the simple fact that these crackers don’t look “pretty”.
I know lame. If you have any doubts about these crackers that have both “sea” and “veggie” in their name, have not any fear…they.are.delicious. I first learned about this genius combination from a Raw Food World episode, and since then I’ve only made a ton. I adapted the recipe a bit from the original, but the idea is the same and I want to give credit where it is due : )

Also, a reader turned friend emailed me asking how she could use a recently acquired (large) amount of kelp powder. This recipe is for her! I would have used even more kelp if I had had it! Sea veggies provide minerals that we just can’t get from food grown on land, but they aren’t always the easiest to swallow. Problem solved. Make these crackers and get your sea veggies!

Sea Veggie Crackers
7 nori roll sheets
2 c carrots (chopped)
1 c Brazil nuts
1 c sunflower seeds (soaked and dehydrated)
1/2 c lemon juice
1/2 c water
6 cloves garlic
1 T kelp powder
1 t Celtic Sea salt

Cut each nori roll sheet into 6ths. Process all other ingredients in a food processor until thoroughly combined but slightly course. Dollop about 1 Tablespoon onto each nori sheet 6th. Dehydrate until crispy (12-14 hours at 105° F). Eat!

Another giveaway! I was so blessed to have the kind people from Navitas Naturals

  1. My husband and I have lived in a trailer home for over 7 years. We have endured many comments from people about being trailer trash. But we knew what we wanted and we had our reasons for living in a trailer that was falling apart. We wanted to be able to buy organic foods, home school my daughter and also be able to buy land one day all while living on one income. And I am happy to say that in 2 months we will be living our dream of owning 30 acres of land and we will still have enough money for me to buy organic and stay home with the kids:) I couldn’t as for a better year for us.

  2. Hello Hannah!

Thanks for hosting this giveaway. I love Navitas Naturals products.

I am most looking forward to two things this year. First, the SAICFF coming up in a few weeks. I helped make a film this past summer and it will be a helpful experience to learn more about filmmaking at the festival.

Second, I am looking forward to starting a two-year course on clinical master herbalism. Not only will it be beneficial for the health of my family and I, but I pray it will benefit many others.

I shared this giveaway on Google+ and my email contacts.

    In Christ,
    ~Micaela

  3. Looking forward to a new addition in the new year! I absolutely love your site and I have shared it with all my friends on Facebook! Thanks so much

  4. Olivia: Wow! That is incredible. I’m so happy for you! I think you made the best possible decision :) Sacrifice to invest in the future. God bless!

  5. Micaela: You’re going to the film festival?! I’ll, Lord willing, see you there : ) Do share what you learn in your herbalism course. That sounds really interesting and an important area to take dominion of.

  6. Becky: Are you moving for work or family? I’ve never been to Seattle, but wouldn’t mind visiting. Hope all the planning comes together well! Thanks for sharing : )

  7. *scratches head* hmmm. I’m not sure. I am looking forward to getting a pencil portrait done for a dear friend of mine (it’s a surprise!)….

Becky, I hope you like rain. :D Some years are reallly wet here in Seattle. (aren’t we known for that, though?)

  8. That recipe looks good, my daughter is 2 and adores Nori, when I roll sushi, comes and steals a whole sheet and eats it up just like that!

The thing I am most looking forward to is growing our own garden this spring. I have always wanted to but even after kids were born I’ve always had a 57 hour work week. My husband was given a promotion and I became a SAHM, now we will have time to grow our own foods, and frequent the farmers markets! Improving our eating habits, though already healthy, is one of my new years resolutions.

  9. Hello Hannah,

I am looking forward to some travel! Hope to see you in San Antonio for the film festival. As well, as the Food Conference:)
I am also looking forward to changes for the health food store,

    Brooke

  10. There is so much to look forward to this year! Every days brings new blessings and challenges, so I am looking forward to praising the Lord through them all!
I would really, really like to win this give-away. It was very nice of them to share and you too!

  11. I really love your website and the fact that you love the Lord :) For this year, I’m super excited about my study abroad program! I’m traveling abroad to Accra, Ghana in West Africa for a International Service Learning Project. I have decided to join the focus group for Gender Empowerment. I’m elated to sow into the lives of different kinds of women to empower and encourage them mentally, emotionally, economically and mentally. Myself along with my group will initiate fundraising and workshop themes to bring the women together and build economic independence, sisterhood and agency. I leave in May and I just can’t wait! :) Thank you so much for posting this giveaway opportunity!

    Blessings,

    Mirakol

  12. Melissa: What a huge blessing you are able to stay home with you children! That is just incredible and your children will love being with you more…and in your garden : ) My family and I attempted gardening last year for the first time in many years. It is so rewarding, but a ton of work. God bless!

  13. Jenné: I saw them! I’ve gotten out of the habit of making crackers, but when I have them around I wonder why I ever stopped! There is something about dehydrated crackers (and kale chips) that are so addicting. Maybe they have all the good stuff my body needs? Anyway, thanks for stopping by fellow raw food chef : )

  14. Mrs. Brookshire: That would be too funny if you win. And if not, I’ll have to make some more treats for you all to try : ) Can’t wait to see you and the girls Friday!

  15. Mirakol: That sounds like quite the trip! Exciting, but intense. Is the International Service Learning Project a Christian organization? Just curious : )

  16. Jennifer and Jaclyn: Very cool! I’d love to know when it launches. I’ve thought of selling some of my food before…thought : ) Maybe someday! Thanks so much for sharing!

  17. My husband and I are currently building our dream home together! We will be able to move in at the end of August! It’s so exciting to know that someday we will be raising our family in this home and feel completely blessed that we are able to do this!

  18. JayLynn: Fun! Where will you be going? I’ve heard that an Alaskan cruise is the very best, which is kind of surprising. I always think tropical! Thanks for sharing : )

  19. Hi Hannah! I am really looking forward to using our new (to us) freezer this summer for storing food. I know it’s not as good as raw, but in the middle of February I may be glad I have some produce left over from the summer. :-)
I’m not on Facebook or Twitter, but I have been sharing your website with my family and friends. Many are impressed with your photography and your recipes (as well as your heart to help people)! My husband and I are going to SAICFF also, so maybe we’ll see you there.

  20. Liz: Thank you so much for sharing with your friends and family! Means a lot to me :) I am so excited about the film festival, and now even more excited! See you then!

  21. Hi Hannah,
Thanks for all the great recipes, they are always really appreciated (I recently made your cabbage and apple salad and it was a huge hit!)
We just welcomed our second addition to our little family 5 months ago (out little guy is almost 2) so I guess what I am looking forward to the most this year is enjoying our growing family and seeing our kids go through all their firsts!
    Thanks for your wonderful blog!
    Ann-Marie

  22. Ann-Marie: Glad you liked the salad! Congratulations to your second little one : ) Children are such a blessing, and I look forward to the day where I might have my own. And thank you so much for your kind words!

  23. I am most looking forward this year to my oldest son graduating from college and my youngest son starting his last year of homeschooling. We both graduate from homeschooling in 2013!

  24. I can’t wait to be done with my Master’s program, get a REAL person job with income! And continue the amazing relationship I’ve begun in my new location! Happiness all around :) Thanks for the giveaway!!!

  25. I’m looking forward to a lot of traveling this summer–Ukraine, East and West Coasts, and lots of places in between. :)

  26. Hannah! Thanks for your response :) Navita Naturals seems super awesome! I hope to win :) Also, the program is not Christian. Sadly and fortunately, I have decided to not participate in the program because of the ridiculously high costs as well as the fact that I would have to miss my little brother’s graduation. However, I believe that God has great plans for me as His word says in Jeremiah 29 :) If it is meant for me to go to Ghana, He will make a way in another season. I also am preparing to graduate in the Fall. I’ve gotten news of this research opportunity in Bluefields, Nicaragua. It is less than half of what the Ghana program cost and I believe that funding opportunities are rearing that look pretty hopeful. So I’m praying that if it is in God’s will, I will get fellowships and scholarships to go to Nicaragua debt free :)

  27. Mirakol: I admire your desire to really trust the Lord with making those decisions. I still have so much to learn, but studying the Word for direction as a young woman really freed my perspective of what I thought I should be doing or where I should be going. If you haven’t, study the women in the Bible and see what they did :)

  28. Maria: That’s really interesting. However, I’m not concerned : ) I wouldn’t consider eHow the most trustworthy source for true health information. There are people out there who actually want to deceive us into thinking healthy food is bad for us. I trust Natural News and they have good things to say about Brazil nuts.

  29. I’m most looking forward to celebrating my two year anniversary with my hubby! And also reaching my weight loss goal (down 25 of 50!) by continuing with the raw food lifestyle. :)

  30. Hi Hannah! I’m just seeing your responses! Thank you so much for your encouragement :) I really appreciate it! Also, thanks for the direction to study women of the Bible. I’ll put that on the list of things to do in the Word. Have a great one!
